PAST EVENT | Conference on Energy Efficient Buildings and Neighborhoods in Cote d’Ivoire
Venue: Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire

ESMAP was one of the key sponsors of the Conference on Energy Efficient Buildings and Neighborhoods in Cote d’Ivoire, which took place in Abidjan on September 18-19, 2017, together with  the World Bank Global Practice for Social Urban, Rural and Resilience (SURRR), the French Environment and Energy Efficiency Agency (ADEME), and UNEP as Secretariat of the Global Alliance on Buildings and Construction.  The event was hosted by the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Drainage and Urban Planning of Côte d’Ivoire

The event aimed to raise awareness and increase knowledge among public and private sector stakeholders, in sustainable and energy efficient buildings and neighborhoods.  It examined the state of Cote d’Ivoire’s buildings sector (with a primary focus on housing), and promoted international experiences and practices, especially from countries with similar contexts to help Cote d’Ivoire’s strengthen its policies and actions to develop  a stronger housing sector.

The Conference was followed by a 1.5-day regional roundtable of the Global Alliance for Building and Construction, and a half day training of the Global Action for Sustainable Consumption and Production.

The event brought together 200+ local participants from different ministries (such as Construction, Energy, Industry, and Environment), local governments and other public institutions, and professional organizations, private and academic entities, as well as donors such as the African Development Bank, Shelter Afrique, and UN Habitat.  Some 30 experts and representatives from mostly African countries also joined the conference.  IFC’s EDGE Green Buildings program, one of the key programs in EE buildings funded by ESMAP, was also represented.

The event received widespread local media coverage (in French):
