Small Hydro Resource Mapping in Madagascar: Prefeasibility Study of the Mahatsara Hydroelectric Scheme - Phase 2 - Ground Based Data Collection

This study is part of a technical assistance project funded by energy sector management assistance program (ESMAP) and implemented by the World Bank in Madagascar, which aims to support mapping resources and geospatial planning for small hydropower. It is conducted in close coordination with the Ministry of Energy, the Electricity Regulation Office (ERO), Development Agency of Rural Electrification (DARE), and Jiro sy Rano Malagasy (JIRAMA).

The objectives of the study are (1) improving the quality and availability of information about the hydropower resource in Madagascar; (2) a detailed review and update of Madagascar's small hydro potential (1-20 MW), and (3) recommendations for implementation of small hydro within the framework of energy sector planning.
