Transit bus companies in many developing countries are cash-strapped. Many cities are dominated by often old and fuel-intensive buses with high operating costs. This guidance note provides detailed and practical recommendations on how city bus operations managers and their technical staff can plan and implement such enhancements to their fleets through O&M practices withouth significant capital investments.

A background note, Transit Bus Operational and Maintenance Practices to Maximize Fuel Economy has also been prepared and published by the Transportation Technology staff at ICF International. The research and development of this study was funded by the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP).
