The 4th Iceland Geothermal Conference (ICG) will be hosted in Iceland from April 24-27, 2018. The conference focuses on an in-depth discussion of the barriers that hinder development of the geothermal sector and how to overcome them. It also focuses on the business environment through three separate themes: vision, development, and operations.
As a key sponsor of the event, ESMAP has partnered with the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Iceland Geothermal to organize a session to celebrate the 5th anniversary of its Global Geothermal Development Plan (GGDP), which was launched at the IGC in Reykjavik in 2013. The objective of this 2-hour session is to showcase what has been achieved over the past 5 years, and provide a platform for donors, multilateral financing institutions, government officials, industry experts, and practitioners to take stock of progress and exchange knowledge on different aspects of geothermal projects.
The session will provide an overview of the geothermal projects supported by the World Bank that have been informed by the GGDP. These projects are examples of how the GGDP has unlocked geothermal development by using public funds to-cost upstream stage. Several representatives from World Bank client countries will share their experiences, highlighting commonalities and the differences between different approaches taken in different markets.
