The Government of Kenya together with multiple partners, including Hivos, ENERGIA, MECS, TENN, Clean Cooking Alliance, ESMAP, UNDESA, WHO, World Bank, teamed up to host this side event.   Full details for this event available here.

During this side event, we discussed the multisectoral efforts needed to facilitate the socio-economic short- and long-term interventions during, post and beyond the Covid-19 pandemic.

The focus was on how to address long-standing inequalities and accelerate the achievement of universal access to clean cooking, while strengthening the resilience of the poor, women and other vulnerable groups. The Ministers of Energy from Kenya and Nepal weighed in on government policies and actions to scale up clean cooking technologies in their countries. The possible role of the European Union in accelerating access to clean cooking was discussed, while international bodies reflected on the overarching, long-term interventions needed. Members of CSOs shone light on inclusivity and equality, community involvement and people centered solutions.
