Renewable Energy Resource Mapping in Zambia

Recognizing the huge potential for electricity generation from wind, solar, and small hydropower, the Government of Zambia is interested in exploring their geographical distribution, possibilities to enhance the existing energy policy framework, and options for incentivizing commercial development of renewable energy. To take this forward, they have requested the support of the World Bank and ESMAP’s Renewable Energy Mapping Initiative to help improve the country’s knowledge and awareness of solar and wind energy resources and promote rural electrification and diversification of energy sources to meet a growing energy demand.

This project is part of a broader World Bank program of technical assistance that will assist the Government of Zambia in scaling up renewable energy, reducing the non-technical losses of power distribution companies and building the capacity of key stakeholders in each of the above areas.
